DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The UC Press Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3), which raises funds through both private philanthropy and grant writing to support the work of University of California Press. UC Press is one of the most forward-thinking scholarly publishers. For more than 125 years, it has championed work that influences public discourse and challenges the status quo in multiple fields of study.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director, UC Press Foundation, the Development Officer focuses on writing funding requests and grant proposals while assisting with overall fundraising campaigns to support the growth objectives of the UC Press Foundation. Strategically manages a portfolio of foundations, donors and prospects to expand and increase overall giving levels. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced, fundraising professional at the UC Press Foundation in support of the mission and work of UC Press. Plans, schedules, and implements moderate-sized, comprehensive fundraising projects including foundation work, individual giving pipeline development and stewardship programs. Manages grant reporting process and works with finance to prepare financial reports on fundraising budget, activities, and results. Provides fundraising support to the Foundation Director and others, as required. Plans, executes and attends fundraising events and meetings. May coordinate and oversee the work of support staff. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Position is expected to raise gifts and grant dollar amounts as determined by the Director, UC Press Foundation.
Responsibilities
30% Under guidance of Foundation Director, helps plan, schedule, and implement fundraising programs for cultivation and solicitation of foundation, corporate, and donor prospects to ensure predetermined fundraising goals are met.
30% Writes and presents grant proposals, researches new funders for solicitation of grants, helps with grant tracking and actively builds grant reports.
20% Identifies, cultivates, solicits and / or stewards donors, especially through pipeline development efforts.
10% Designs, organizes, and implements special events and meetings for supporters, prospective donors and the Board of Trustees.
10% Assists oversight of support staff and helps implement ongoing administrative duties and procedures.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience working with a diverse portfolio of funders required.

Travel Requirements
20% Travel to donor events, mostly in California but may require travel to other parts of the country.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person hired will be required to reside within California and report to work on-site at UC’s Office of the President (UCOP) located in Oakland, CA at least two days per week.

Payscale: $109,000 – $122,000, commensurate with experience
Full Salary Range: $85,800 – $158,200
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

This position will be based in downtown Oakland, CA, and will be expected to work onsite (hybrid) at least two days per week.
