Wayne State University is searching for an
Academic
Services Officer (ASO) I/II – Office of the Provost at its Detroit campus
location. The ASO, reporting to the Director of
Undergraduate Affairs, will
broadly support student-facing academic enrichment programs, services, and
initiatives in the Office of
the Provost. This position involves close
collaboration with students, faculty, academic staff, and administrative staff
to enhance
the overall student experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Enrichment Support: Work closely with the Director to lead and
support academic enrichment services, programs and high-impact practices, in collaboration with faculty, staff and unit-level academic
leadership. Plan and execute events in support of academic enrichment programming and high impact practices. Engage with students directly
as needed, in groups and individually, regarding academic engagement, academic progress and intervention support. Investigate best practices
to adopt and incorporate into future programming and initiatives.
Assessment, Analysis and Reporting: Actively seek feedback and
suggestions from stakeholder groups, especially Academic Senate and Student Senate, to enhance students’ overall academic experience.
Support assessment efforts of academic enrichment programs and initiatives to gather and disseminate data driven feedback with campus
partners. Collect, analyze, and report on data related to student-facing programs and services, using data-driven insights to inform
decision-making and program enhancements. Generate regular reports summarizing trends, outcomes, and recommendations for improvements.
Contribute to grant proposals and progress reports as necessary.
Academic Appeals and Petitions: Assist students in navigating the
academic appeals and petitions process, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and support to resolve academic issues effectively and
equitably. Facilitate open communication between students and relevant university offices regarding policies and procedures. Work with
academic units to uphold our commitment to due process for academic petitions and appeals. Receive, review, and manage student petitions and
appeals submitted to the Office of the Provost. Conduct thorough investigations, including gathering necessary documentation and
information. Formulate well-informed recommendations for findings, decisions, and remedies, balancing the interests of students and the
institution.
Policy and Procedure Support: Collaborate with university stakeholders to evaluate and refine student-facing policies
and procedures, ensuring they are fair, transparent, and in line with best practices. Ensure units are using reliable enterprise-strength
means of managing student policy documents, including revision management.Ensure consistency of unit-level academic policies and procedures
with university policy, values, and strategic direction.Monitor and interpret changes in relevant laws and regulations, recommending
adjustments as needed. Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for staff, faculty, and students on academic policies and
procedures. Participate in outreach activities to promote awareness and understanding of the petition and appeal processes.
Develop
and deliver academic enrichment-related credit-bearing courses, as assigned. Set-up and administer program-related course materials, general
communications, and professional development (e.g. Canvas). Review and edit instructor training materials, coordinate implementation and
distribution with respective instructors.
Develop, contribute to, and maintain print and online materials and resources for the
Undergraduate Affairs office, including web site content management. Inform students at all levels of programmatic involvement including
marketing, branding and outreach during WSU recruiting events.
Perform program-related administrative support tasks, such as ordering
supplies, reserving space, initiating human resources paperwork, etc.
Perform related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (A Master’s degree in higher
education, counseling, student affairs or related field for an Academic Services Officer II).
Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both interpersonally and in small- and large-group
presentations.
Strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the academic senate, student senate, senior
university leadership, academic unit leadership, and the broader campus community.
Ability to work effectively with students,
faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Strong commitment to inclusive and equitable student success and
satisfaction.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and analytical skills to analyze and evaluate complex
situations.
High degree of proficiency with standard office productivity software, especially Microsoft Office 365, data analysis and
reporting tools.
Familiarity with advising and case management tools.
Ability to work occasional irregular hours and engage in
limited travel.
