West Texas A&M University, a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites
applications for a non-tenure track Faculty positon, and Head Coach for the Equestrian Team that reports to the Head of the Department of
Agricultural Sciences through the Director of the Equine Industry Program. The University is seeking an innovative, dynamic educator with a
record in teaching, coaching, and service for an 11+1-month position appointment.
Qualifications
·
Show evidence of a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Equine/Animal Science or a closely related field of
study.
· Show evidence of ability to meet, interact and communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the agricultural
community.
· Show evidence of the ability to effectively communicate in both the oral and written forms.
· Show
evidence of the ability to effectively coach an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) equestrian team and individual team
members.
· Show evidence of teaching experience either in formal and/or informal settings.
· Show evidence of
handling horses, livestock, animal welfare and management.
· Show evidence of leading student organizations, and/or youth
related activities.
Responsibilities
· Teach a minimum of 9-12 hours per long semester. Teaching
opportunities may include face-to-face and/or online formats.
· Teach courses in riding, behavior and training, and/or Equine,
Animal Science, and/or Agriculture.
· Serve as Head Coach of the university’s intercollegiate Equestrian Team program
that develops student athletes’ to their fullest potential while being regionally competitive under the IHSA rules and
regulations.
· Recruit team members who have the ability to achieve academic and athletic success.
· Supervise
and coordinate equestrian events and activities, including attending scheduled practices, classes and IHSA regional and national
events/shows.
· Develop and manage the equestrian team’s annual and regular financial records coordinated with and
provided to the Director of the Equine Industry Program.
· Develop and implement a successful fundraising plan to meet program
needs, goals, and objectives.
· Monitor the academic eligibility of student athletes.
· Coordinate and ensure
horses and horse center facilities are well maintained according to the IACUC Protocol/Plan.
· Attend appropriate departmental
meetings, activities, and hosted events as trusted member of the faculty and foster positive relationships with faculty, university and
industry partners.
· Serve as a role model to all students of the Department of Agricultural Sciences by dressing, speaking
and conducting oneself as a professional. Failure to uphold the highest standards of character, integrity and professionalism both internal
and external to the university will result in dismissal.
· Position will require working some evenings and weekends.
· Other duties as assigned.
