Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE, (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Instructor of Early Childhood Education, (ECE) in the Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts located at San Jose City College.
Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.
This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. On-site presence required.
2. Teach 100% load in the field of ECE.
3. Showcase expertise in developing and delivering online courses, adhering to best practices in online education.
4. Integrate open educational resources and zero-cost materials to create tuition-free courses.
5. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.
6. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.
7. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
8. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.
9. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
10. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.
11. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
12. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
13. Foster a professional work and learning environment.
14. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Master’s in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or Educational Psychology with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education
OR
Bachelor’s in any of the above
AND
Master’s in Social Work, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Life Management/Home Economics, Family Life Studies or Family and Consumer Studies
OR
*The equivalent.

1. Capacity to oversee departmental affairs as needed.
2. Ability to teach “Nutrition” courses.
3. Experience supervising students in child development laboratory settings.
4. Experience supervising adult volunteers and staff in community-based early childhood education programs.
5. Experience with student learning outcomes and program review at a community college.
6. Recent experience in curriculum development in early childhood education, including but not limited to inclusion of children with special needs, multicultural observation, assessment, and educational standards.
7. Record of involvement in professional organizations.
8. Bilingual abilities, desirable.
District’s Diversity Requirements
Salary Range:
$89,273 to $122,546 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month, Academic Salary Schedule 2023-2024); Maximum Salary Potential $159,001. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate’s verified education and experience.
