OVERVIEW
The General Mills Milwaukee Plant manufactures and distributes snacks for the North American Retail and Convenience & Foodservice Business segments. The site’s product portfolio includes Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Bugles, and Gardetto’s. Located 6 miles south of downtown Milwaukee, the site was built in 1968 and owned by the Gardetto family until it was acquired by General Mills in 1999.
The Manufacturing Process & Packaging Engineer is responsible to identify, lead, develop, and execute solutions for performance improvements and loss elimination through a rigorous Daily Direction Setting (DDS) system, strong business partnership, strategic productivity, capacity solutions, and continuous improvement efforts. This role also serves as a technical resource and liaison to drive successful commercialization of business initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Human and Food Safety
- Understand and provide expertise for human and food safety systems as they apply to packaging and process systems
Technical Knowledge & Leadership
- Leads portions of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly DDS meetings, including:
- Daily reporting of top losses with a plan to address.
- Execution of the plan for the day.
- Weekly loss tree refresh.
- Owns the following for the assigned line/ system:
- Manufacturing data (MQIS) integrity
- Health of Process Centerline system: Leads identification of centerline targets, documentation of standards, and coaches the Line Team and technicians through the execution, problem solving and change management.
- Rate Strategy – Conduct capability studies
- Develop basic technical capability of operators (machine and material interface)
- Supports development and leads execution of the 90-Day improvement plan to deliver the glidepath through loss elimination.
- Demonstrate and coach problem solving tools & methodologies
- Demonstrate understanding of equipment functionality and key process transformations
- Demonstrate expertise in manufacturing information systems (MA, MQIS, RMT, Maximo, SAP, PLM, etc.)
- Leverage data and information systems to identify and drive decision making (performance metrics, financial information, data historian, maintenance management system)
- Builds capability of the line team to understand losses through data.
- Applies advanced data analysis leveraging tools such as S-curve and Weibull.
- Develop and maintain material balances and unit operation capability information to ensure optimal production rates and parameters
Holistic Margin Management:
- Identify, vet and implement HMM solutions
- Support business driven HMM initiatives
Product and Technology Commercialization:
- Deliver key technical elements for capital projects and vertical start up process
- Provide technical guidance and system knowledge in new and reformulated product launch
Future State Strategy:
- Lead development of future state (cost and capacity)
- Identify, develop, lead & execute equipment and system improvements that deliver financial and performance benefits (overuse reduction, reliability improvements)
- Develop and champion a system vision, technical road map and capital needs to support Long Range Plan
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
- 2 + years related work experience in process engineering, process/ system development, product development, quality engineering, maintenance, process lead or as a Manufacturing Engineering Associate.
- Demonstrates learning agility, technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, and trouble-shooting abilities
- Demonstrates ability to work with and influence diverse groups at various levels and across functions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communications, strong listening skills, strong coaching/teaching skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Foundational Systems
- Expertise with Troubleshooting Tools and facilitating root cause analysis.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $67300.00 – $101200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee’s pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
