The Opportunity:
As the Director of Development, Foundation Relations with the WSU Foundation you will work with faculty, Advancement colleagues, Deans, WSU’s Office of Research and other University professionals to identify, cultivate and solicit private foundation gifts and grants. You will develop and implement strategies to meet fundraising objectives, identifying new foundation major gift prospects, while at the same time deepening relationships with foundations already in your portfolio. As part of the Foundation Relations’ team you will provide counsel to colleagues across the WSU system and share your expertise in all aspects of proposal writing, management and stewardship while managing a portfolio of major private foundations.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experience writing grants/proposals for a complex non-profit or higher education institution and successfully securing funding.
Demonstrated ability to communicate persuasively verbally and in writing.
Proven ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively.
Complex problem-solving and planning skills.
Demonstrable experience using a global organizational perspective with knowledge of multiple academic units and/or specialized knowledge/experience in an academic field of study or non-profit specialty.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines.
Solid knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards governing foundation grant/proposal making.
Experience handling sensitive information discretely while maintaining confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while adapting to changing priorities.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office, as well as experience using fundraising databases such as Ellucian Advance, Raiser’s Edge or SalesForce.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree
Experience as a member of a Foundation Relations team at a university, particularly a public, land grant institution.
Demonstrated experience in securing philanthropic gifts and sponsored research at a minimum gift level of $100,000 or greater.

Monthly Salary: $4,942.10 – $7,569.55 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. For additional information, please review WSU’s Administrative Professional Compensation.
