University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) and the UVA School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seek an accomplished and motivated Associate Director of Development. The Associate Director will represent the University of Virginia, its programs, policies, personnel, traditions, philosophy, and objectives to all constituent groups. The Associate Director will generate philanthropic support for the School of Engineering as part of the Honor the Future campaign, of which the School has a $250M effort.
Key responsibilities:
The Associate Director will be responsible for building the school’s annual giving program and increasing Thornton Society and Dean’s Circle leadership annual giving activity and results. This position will also manage a portfolio of current and prospective leadership and major-gift level donors to move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the School and the University.
Responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans to include communications and annual giving campaigns.
Collaborating with development colleagues and liaising with University Advancement’s Annual Giving and Reunion Giving teams on strategies to retain and increase giving to the School of Engineering and its departments’ unrestricted annual giving funds.
Travelling regionally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects, working within an identified region to further build long-term relationships.
Collaborating with other development professionals within the School of Engineering and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents, and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors, and to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
Working with and supporting department chairs in the School of Engineering on strategies to increase leadership annual giving.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Three years of related experience, including demonstrated success in fundraising, sales and marketing, or managing relationships with individual donors.
The successful candidate will have the ability to travel frequently domestically and will participate in occasional evening and weekend work. A valid driver’s license is also required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity, and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.
Experience in volunteer management or program development through marketing, outreach, and individual relationship-building
Demonstrated success in cultivating high-level relationships and developing plans that result in desired goals.
Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
Experience in higher education development with a track record of closing five- or six-figure gifts.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
The anticipated hiring range is $70,000 – $77,000 and will be commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
