The Controller, under direction, oversees the direction of financial and reporting compliance activities with emphasis on budget, general accounting, cost accounting, student business, tax, accounts payable, regulatory findings and compliance, and financial reporting. Provides leadership to various accounting and financial boards and committees, and maintains and responds to financial and accounting board directives. Develops, interprets, and maintains policies and regulations related to financial and reporting issues.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and management to Budget, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Accounting, Asset and Property Accounting, Financial Reporting, Departmental Accounting Services, Student Business Services, Tax, Cost Analysis and Service Center compliance.
Coordinates and supervises activities of managers and associated staff with the compilation, review, completion, and distribution of Annual Financial Reports (AFR).
Directs liaison efforts with the State Auditor’s Office, the State Comptroller’s Office, and other oversight agencies for financial, reporting, and audit matters.
Maintains accounting records in compliance with GASB, GAAP, and other appropriate authoritative literature.
Directs the continued development, modification, and maintenance of automated modules for the system to improve consistency and accuracy.
Enhances and develops campus-wide accounting and reporting procedures and regulations which includes associated training and preparation of a System accounting policies manual, identification of problematic issues, and compliance with external accounting and reporting requirements and requests.
Reviews and analyzes potential legislation dealing with financial issues.
Interprets and directs implementation of requirements resulting from new legislation and/or directives of State oversight agencies.
Develops and maintains policies and regulations related to financial and reporting issues.
Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training sessions with management and staff members. Works with and assists other team members by sharing information, presenting ideas and concerns, and asking questions.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business
Ten (10) years of related experience with two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience in higher education in comptroller or accounting office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Knowledge of fully integrated systems.
Knowledge of the business procedures and policies of State agencies, tax laws, and governmental accounting and reporting.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
Preferred knowledge of FAMIS, Banner, Workday or other HR systems.
Licensing / Professional Certification:
Preferred Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
