ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of Music, Theatre, and Film at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)
invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in wind band conducting. We seek applicants who welcome the
challenges and rewards of serving on a diverse and artistically talented faculty of a growing department in a dynamic and thriving arts
community.
Responsibilities: Provide effective leadership as the conductor of the UAH Wind Ensemble, coupled with a
recruiting component integral to the growth of the department. Additional responsibilities include instruction in the areas of conducting
and music education and overseeing the leadership of the university athletic bands. The regular teaching load is three courses per semester.
Faculty are expected to actively engage as leaders and collaborators in scholarly and creative endeavors within their research
professions.
Qualifications: D.M./D.M.A. in Wind Band Conducting and an ability to effectively rehearse/conduct wind
ensemble/band, as well as highly effective instruction in undergraduate/graduate courses related to conducting and music education. Ideal
candidates should have experience in college teaching and a proven track record of successful scholarship related to wind conducting,
effective rehearsal technique, and collegiate ensemble performances showcased in concerts, conferences, and festivals. Additional experience
in orchestral conducting is a plus. ABDs will be considered; however, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August
1, 2024, to be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor.
