Position Description:
The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks applicants for a 12-month term assignment to include coordination of a growing program serving non-traditional students preparing to become elementary teachers and be a member of the teaching faculty in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The 2+2 program is built on students completing two years of undergraduate work at one of Iowa’s community colleges and transferring to UNI for their last two years before graduation. Teaching content areas can include: Elementary Science Methods, Elementary Social Studies Methods, Early Literacy Strategies, Language Development, Content Area Reading and Writing, Visual and Performing Arts in Elementary Classrooms, Serving Children with Mild/Moderate Disabilities in the Classroom. This position will collaborate with 2+2 personnel in other locations in Iowa, advisors and admissions personnel, and faculty colleagues at UNI. This position may be housed on the UNI campus in Cedar Falls or the Des Moines Area Community College Urban Campus.
Education Requirements:
Master’s degree or higher in Elementary Education or related field required.
Required Qualifications:
At least three years of demonstrated experience in teaching in the K-8 level; experience working in teams; maximizing high leverage practices; engaging in inclusive practices; and experience in experiential programs required.
Desirable Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Elementary Education or related field; successful experience teaching in a teacher preparation program using both face-to-face online (synchronous and asynchronous) formats, and/or working with adult students; and expertise in one or more of the following teaching areas: Elementary Science Methods, Elementary Social Studies Methods, Early Literacy Strategies, Language Development, Content Area Reading and Writing, Visual and Performing Arts in Elementary Classrooms, Serving Children with Mild/Moderate Disabilities in the Classroom preferred.
