Description of primary duties and responsibilities::
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The overall mission of the Department of Psychology is to provide students with competitive and comprehensive instruction to prepare for a range of post-baccalaureate educational and career opportunities. We serve a culturally, racially, and economically diverse population of civilian and military learners from southeastern North Carolina, around the nation, and across the globe. Among Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we have taken the academic lead by pioneering an online undergraduate degree completion program in psychology. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree program, with options to concentrate in health psychology or work and organizational psychology, through campus-based and online programs; an online Master of Arts degree in general psychology; and graduate certificates in behavioral research and professional psychology.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Department Chair serves as the administrator of their respective academic unit. They are responsible for the daily operation of the program as well as long-term planning, scheduling, and curriculum development. In addition to maintaining an acceptable level of teaching and scholarship, the chair’s primary duties include managing the department budget and seeking external funds; recruiting, hiring, and evaluating faculty and staff; recruiting, advising, and assisting students; producing various reports for the Dean’s Office, and providing vision and leadership to the Department.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements::
A doctorate in psychology, or related field and a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of a tenured Associate or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications::
Preferred Requirements:Experience with administrative academic leadership, acquisition of extramural grant funding, and the generation of a major program of online courses.
