The Department of Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) is seeking a dynamic, experienced,
board-certified, visionary academic colorectal surgeon to head its Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery. The successful candidate will
have leadership opportunities and responsibilities within the Department of Surgery. Under the broad review of the Department Head, the
Chief of the Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery will provide leadership for the Division’s educational, clinical, and research
activities and be responsible for overseeing fiscal management of the Division. Incumbent will work to promote multidisciplinary
collaboration and effective communication. Qualified applicants should have a demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which
excellence in patient care, teaching, research and scholarship can flourish, as well as the ability to develop and lead a collaborative
program that interfaces with other departments and interdisciplinary centers and programs.
The Division Chief must be a compelling,
innovative leader and talented surgeon whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions energizes the faculty, staff, and
learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence across all mission areas. He/she exhibits leadership skills that will
foster collaboration, planning, communication, and benchmarking of results in his/her approach to problem solving and program building.
Mentoring of early career faculty, recruitment, and career development of new faculty members are very important components of the position.
He/she must also be a competent and prudent steward of the Division, guiding it through what will almost certainly be uncharted territories
of change in the healthcare and social environment.
The Division Chief will be a model of adaptability and possess skills for
conflict resolution and management of adversity. Importantly, the Division Chief must be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for
balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions of the Division, Department, and Institution. The Division Chief will promote a
culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, including commitment to improved business operations, efficient and effective use of
resources, and a willingness to re-align resources with evolving strategies.
The Division Chief will emphasize building, leading,
growing, and connecting the clinical and research enterprises of the Division, ultimately fostering an environment that promotes academic
productivity, prominence and diversity; growing clinical volumes, improving outcomes, and bringing national distinction to LSU. He/she will
recognize the value of contributions from and the needs of faculty members across the Division and will recognize the importance of creating
an environment where diverse points of view are solicited and encouraged. The Department of Surgery is deeply committed to ensuring that the
Colon and Rectal Surgery Division is recognized among the best in the nation and has set the table for its next Chief to successfully lead
the Division in that direction.
Competitive compensation, benefits and startup resources are available. This position will be on
