PRIMARY FUNCTION(S)
Create and teach an academically rigorous 2-week, half-day course in the Smith Precollege Women, Gender and Representation Program (WGR) for students entering 9th-12th grades between July 22nd – August 2nd. Actively participate in program training and team collaboration. Provide training and oversight for an undergraduate Classroom Assistant. This position is temporary, non-benefitted, and is in-person for the duration of the program and at least 1-2 Classroom Assistant training days. The salary is a $3000 stipend.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prior to the program:
Design a course that is compelling and at the appropriate level for high school students seeking a college-level course. It plans to make use of Smith resources (archives, library, museums and Smith pre-college and college faculty and staff colleagues etc.).
Generate a course description, biography, and photo for the website and other marketing.
Provide and maintain a budget for course materials.
Lead a Classroom Assistant in approximately 25 hours of academic training from June 24-28. This includes at least 1-2 on-site meetings with CA and teaching team members.
Participate in faculty orientation and training (3 virtual and in-person-encouraged meetings between March-May of approximately 2-3 hours each).
Complete all pre-orientation training and paperwork, including training to engage with minors and other paperwork related to working with students under 18.
Maintain clear, ongoing communication with the WGR Academic Director and Precollege staff.
During the program:
Teach one course (20 students; 2 weeks; Monday, July 22 – Friday, August 2; half day- 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm).
Collaborate on program-wide events such as guest speakers, orientation, and showcase events that achieve shared course and program goals during course time, including the opening Monday orientation and the final presentations on the last Friday of the program.
Use clear, ongoing communication and collaboration with the Classroom Assistant.
Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom, keeping equity at the forefront of the pedagogy.
Communicate with senior staff about any student classroom concerns.
Drive campus vehicles for program field trips, if and when applicable.
After the program:
Complete applicable expense reports and processes.
Write recommendations for each student in the class.
Meet with Academic Director to debrief program experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: Master’s degree or terminal graduate degree in the course’s field and 5+ years of experience teaching high school or college-level classes.
