Job Summary
The Director of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships will promote collaborations between the university and external entities through sponsored research agreements and other forms of cooperative agreements. The Director will be involved in the Startup Incubator and the ISU Hub of the Illinois Innovation Network, and assist in forming collaborations between the university, other IIN Hubs, corporations, and other external entities.
The Director will work with the associate vice president for Research and Graduate Studies, the deans, faculty, and staff, and to promote strategic initiatives that enhance external support of research, innovation, and economic development. The Director will coordinate activities to bring a community business incubator to ISU and work collaboratively with incubator tenants and clients, the Illinois Small Business Development Center of McLean County, ISU College of Business Means Center, business service providers, economic development entities, and the business community. The Manager writes and administers grants and oversees and facilitates the operation of the business incubator by coordinating services and developing and providing business development assistance to Launch tenants and clients.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Minimum of three years professional experience in higher education.
3. Experience with corporation and foundation relations and/or grant writing.
4. Experience in outward-facing aspect of higher education.
5. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals.
6. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
7. Ability to develop strategy as well as connect faculty researcher interests with private funding sources.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Masters degree in Public Administration
2. Experience in entrepreneurship and/or small business development.
3. Leadership experience
Work Hours
Generally Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
