Community Care Officer
Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) seeks a full-time qualified and experienced
Community Care Officer (CCO). The CCO oversees the Community Care and Safety Office (CCSO) and fulfills several critical functions: (1)
oversight of the implementation of AUI’s Policies & Procedures for the Prevention of Sex Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct and
Sexual Harassment; (2) leading educational outreach and training efforts to both ensure proper implementation of the University’s
policies & procedures related to sex discrimination and sexual harassment as well as to raise community awareness about issues related
to gender discrimination and sexual harassment; (3) preparation of an annual security report; and (4) The CCO also works to support the
Center for Awareness, Responsiveness and Empowerment (CARE), a volunteer association composed of students, faculty and staff who work on
campus to raise awareness about sexual harassment issues as part of their larger mandate to address issues of diversity, equity and
inclusion on campus.
Major Job Responsibilities
· Oversee the operation of AUI’s Policies &
Procedures for the Prevention of Sex Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct and Sexual Harassment.
· Advise the University to
ensure that its policies related to preventing gender discrimination and sexual harassment remain in-line with global best practice.
· Support and assist in the training of AUI student, faculty and staff volunteers who are part of the CARE Team and who support
the efforts of the Community Care and Safety Office.
· Assess and Report on CARE performance and programming
outcomes/effectiveness.
· Develop and implement a wide range of training programs related to gender discrimination,
sexual harassment, sexual misconduct and sexual assault for all University constituencies, while working horizontally and collaboratively
with relevant units at AUI.
· Support wider efforts to educate the community to prevent and deter alcohol and drug use/abuse
across all constituencies at AUI.
· Advise and support the University’s prevention-based Comprehensive Mental Health and
Wellbeing strategy.
· Serve as a Designated Reporting Officer (DRO) as part of AUI’s policies, along with other
Designated Reporting Officers, to take and process complaints and confidential reports filed under AUI’s policies and procedures
relating to sex-based discrimination and sexual harassment and lead annual training for DROs.
· Manage and ensure proper
archiving of confidential records arising from the implementation of AUI’s policies against sex-based discrimination and sexual
harassment.
· Counsel survivors of sexual harassment and assault and ensure that they are made aware of support resources both
within and outside the University.
· Lead mediation efforts when requested and appropriate.
· Work closely with
such offices as Human Resources, the Department of Security, the Transportation Office, the Residential Management Office, the CFO, CMO,
Dean of Student Affairs and the VPAA to ensure adequate information sharing related to the enhancement of gender equity and the optimization
of safety across all their units. Report issues to the President and respective heads of appropriate units. This may include collaboration
and advising, and/or oversight/evaluation related to gender equity in management, hiring, and promotion practices, or in service delivery
and access to amenities.
· Oversee the maintenance of AUI’s Sexual Harassment web page and work with the CMO to ensure
best practices in institutional communications.
· Properly manage and report on CCSO budget needs, expenses and operations,
working with the CFO, relevant oversight administrators (for joint projects) and the Office of the President.
· Oversee the
preparation of a detailed Annual Security Report.
· Participate in relevant online training certifications offered by ATIXA
and other recognized training bodies to help enhance the trainings, workshops and awareness sessions provided to AUI community members and
to ensure consistent coordination of AUI’s application of U.S. Title IX regulations within the limits of Moroccan Law and cultural
context.
· Carry out any other duties as directed by AUI’s President and VPAA, within the scope of expected roles for
the CCO.
· For routine administrative matters the CCO reports regularly to the VPAA, however, in the context of specific cases
the CCO may also work closely with the Dean of Student Affairs, the chief Human Resource Officer and the President of the University.
Qualifications
· Master’s level degree in gender studies, psychology, sociology, criminology, law or
other relevant discipline.
· Familiarity with the U.S. model of liberal arts education and international cultural
experience.
· 3 years or more of experience working directly with survivors and/or perpetrators of sexual misconduct.
· Previous experience in policy or program implementation in a university of context.
· Knowledge of Moroccan
culture and values, U.S. Title IX and gender equity issues.
