The Financial Aid Specialist: State Programs Coordinator is responsible for the awarding and reporting requirements for State of Michigan financial aid programs, including but not limited to the Tuition Incentive Program, Michigan Competitive Scholarship, Futures for Frontliners, and Michigan Reconnect. Responsibilities also include advising and assisting students and potential students with financial aid inquires, processing financial aid applications, and providing customer service by answering phone inquiries, assisting with walk-in traffic, and meeting with appointments.
Essential Job Functions
1. Coordinates the awarding and reporting requirements for all State of Michigan financial aid programs, including but not limited to the Tuition Incentive Program, Michigan Competitive Scholarship, Futures for Frontliners and Michigan Reconnect to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
2. Maintains knowledge of legislation and regulations governing federal and state financial aid programs, needs analysis methodology, federal tax laws, and office policies and procedures.
3. Ensures student and parent awareness of the various financial aid sources during counseling sessions by providing information to them and answering their questions regarding financial aid sources. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
4. Advises students on the academic standards that must be met to maintain eligibility for the federal and state financial aid programs.
5. Monitors Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards for state programs. Reviews SAP appeals, leave of absence requests, and determines academic progress plans for students.
6. Monitors ongoing student eligibility requirements for state financial aid programs to ensure only eligible students are awarded and paid.
7. Completes the reconciliation and billing processes for state financial aid programs.
8. Responsible for reporting requirements in the MiSSG system for all state financial aid programs.
9. Develops and organizes materials for training about the state financial aid programs.
10. Plans and facilitates presentations by the Financial Aid Office to inform the public about the various financial aid programs and associated application processes.
11. Plans and facilitates financial literacy seminars for students.
12. Assists the Director in the preparation of audit requirements related to the state financial aid programs.
13. Completes verification of student files to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including resolution of conflicting information and SAR C Flags.
14. Responsible for packaging financial aid offers from the various financial aid programs in accordance with established federal, state, and College guidelines.
15. Maintains competency through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Director of Financial Aid.

18. Contributes to the overall success of the Financial Aid Office by performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
Requirements
Associates Degree required: Bachelor degree preferred.
Two -four years of experience working in financial aid preferred.
Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and procedures preferred.
Availability to work evenings and occasional weekends, during peak processing times.
