of the Job:
The Department of Art in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Graphic Design and Expanded Media at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is an
academic-year position with an anticipated start date of September 3, 2024. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate
studio art courses (ordinarily a 3/3 teaching assignment). Our preference will be toward artists with hybrid creative practices who can
teach in more than one of the following areas: graphic design, intermedia, media design and production, projection mapping, digital
fabrication, and/or interactive design. Preference may also be given to candidates able to teach courses in theory and method appropriate to
a graduate intermedia program. We welcome applications from individuals with demonstrated interest in inclusive pedagogies and commitment to
diversity-related initiatives.
Primary teaching responsibilities are shared between the department’s undergraduate program (BA,
BFA, minors) and graduate Intermedia Program (MA, MFA). Undergraduate courses at the introductory and upper levels include graphic design
and topics courses in graphic media. Graduate courses may include studio critique; topics in media design/production and Intermedia
history/theory, and/or electives in area(s) of expertise.
The Department of Art is a NASAD-accredited program offering BA and BFA
degrees in Studio Art, BA degrees in Art Education and Art History, and MA and MFA degrees in Intermedia. In addition, the department hosts
minors in Art History, Studio Art, and Graphic Design.
