Duties and Responsibilities :
The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Human Services at Bowie State University invites applications for a tenure track position in the Sociology Program. We particularly welcome applications from scholars from populations historically underrepresented in the academy and/or who have experience working in diverse populations. We are seeking a faculty member who is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Teach twelve (12) undergraduate hours (4 courses) per semester; engage in multiple service- related activities such as student advising including mentoring and service at the departmental, school, college, professional, and community levels; and, actively engage in scholarly or creative activities.

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of due diligence background check and verification of credentials. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment will be required prior to employment (Immigration Control Act of 1986).

Experience:
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, student advising, and student mentoring. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level, evidence of academic scholarship and research, ability/potential to publish in peer-reviewed academic journals, the potential for securing external grants, and evidence of building community partnerships. An interest in Comparative Sociology, especially as it relates to Race, Ethnicity, Religion, Politics and Environmental Justice would be an asset. Experience in teaching research methods is highly desirable.
Education:
PhD in Sociology or a closely related field required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities :
Fluency in a foreign language connected with current research, such as French, Spanish or Arabic, would be a plus.
