General Responsibilities |
The Assistant Director’s function is to provide leadership for the office of Disability Support Services in concert with the Director and to assist in ensuring programmatic and physical accessibility for students with disabilities. This position works closely with faculty and staff to ensure that students with disabilities are appropriately accommodated in all aspects of the college experience. This position works closely with students to provide academic advising and determine reasonable accommodations based on their disability documentation. The Assistant Director must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment as the DSS Office serves over 900 students with disabilities each semester with the equivalent of three full-time counselors. The Assistant Director directly supervises the Assistive Technology/Accommodated Testing Specialist, the Accommodated Testing Assistant, the Assistive Technology Assistant, 10 reader/writer/note taker/proctors and up to two work-study students. This person is responsible for strategic planning, budget development, hiring, training, and evaluating staff within this subset of DSS- Assistive Technology and Individualized Proctoring Services. The Assistant Director will assist the Director in developing and implementing policies and procedures that address the needs and concerns of students with disabilities. The Assistant Director must have specialized working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and may serve as a consultant to ensure campus compliance with these federal laws. |

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor’s degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor’s degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor’s degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP. |
