Regulatory and Contracts (“R&C”) Division
The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an experienced environmental attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor (ACC Supervisor), in the R&C Division. This position involves transactional, compliance, litigation, enforcement, and client counseling work.
The ACC Supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Corporation Counsel and Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel of the R&C Division and will handle a wide variety of environmental matters, including but not limited to waste, water, and air. The ACC Supervisor will counsel City departments regarding compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations; review and draft environmental provisions of agreements, including those relating to real estate; develop and implement cost-recovery strategies; draft regulations and legislation; assist City departments with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews for proposed projects; provide assistance to the City’s brownfields redevelopment program; handle administrative actions; assist with environmental liability insurance matters; provide advice and counsel to City departments relating to noise issues; advocate for City environmental positions in various public forums; and otherwise advise and counsel City departments on environmental matters.
The ACC Supervisor also will handle other regulatory matters for the R&C Division, as needed, such as energy, water/sewer, and utilities matters. The ACC Supervisor will also be called upon to litigate in federal and state courts and before administrative bodies, relating primarily to environmental or regulatory matters. The ACC Supervisor will also supervise Assistants Corporation Counsel. All attorneys in R&C are required to attend in-person meetings and proceedings at various locations, which may include the City’s airports, state and federal courts and administrative tribunals both within and outside the City, and other locations.

* Superior writing, researching, and editing skills;
* demonstrated experience and ability to draft and negotiate agreements and contracts; excellent analytical and communication (oral and writing) skills;
* exceptional client counseling, negotiation, and organizational skills;
* demonstrated academic achievement; demonstrated leadership and initiative on assigned tasks;
* demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines, and ability to work well with others.
* Previous experience handling environmental matters is required, and experience in area of energy, water/sewer, and utilities would be helpful but is not required.

Qualifications
* A minimum of six (6) years of legal experience as a licensed attorney.
* Previous supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.
* Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school and admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705).
