REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Is directly accountable and responsible to the Program Director, with indirect supervision from the Assistant Dean.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for providing support for the Bismarck State College Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Program.
• Responsible for supervising MLT Program students.
• Responsible for assisting the MLT Program faculty members.

Position Description & Details:

Classroom/Laboratory/Clinical Duties

• Assists in training students to industry standards.
• Maintains accountability of materials and supplies.
• Supervises students and makes sure they are following program specific policies and procedures
• Orders materials and supplies as needed with assistance of the Clinical Coordinator or Program Director.
• Keeps the area clean and organized.
• Ensures all lab equipment is in good working condition and damaged equipment is repaired or replaced.
  Opens and closes the laboratory and classrooms. Ensures that students clean the area at the end of labs and maintains cleanliness throughout the area.
• Assists the Health Science faculty in classroom presentations.
• Sets up labs for specific training activities scheduled by the MLT Faculty.

Miscellaneous Duties

• Reports student issues to faculty members by following proper procedures (i.e., student conduct concerns, etc.).
• Supports innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.
• Stays current in new equipment and teaching methods
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• Continuously – 66-100% – Use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
• Frequently – 34-65% – Stand, walk, or sit.
• Occasionally – 1-33% – Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, or lift up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements:

• Requires knowledge, skills, and abilities of the health science profession they are teaching.
• Good interpersonal skills demonstrated positive customer service skills, and ability to relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.
• Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Medical Lab Tech Requirements

* Current MT State MLT or MLS License

* Current ASCP Certification
