Penn GSE seeks a Lead Instructional Coach for the Elementary and Middle Levels cohort to join the Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program (UTAP). These individuals will be key implementers of UTAP’s school-based Instructional Coaching curriculum/model and a member of the UTAP leadership team. In this role, the Instructional Coach will work with UTAP faculty, and K-12 school and district leaders to encourage and nurture links between the fieldwork and university classes to enhance the coherence between these elements of student’s experience. The Lead Instructional coach will directly coach apprentices and support other coaches to develop their understanding of the program and coaching responsibilities. This is a 12 month, 100% FTE, non-tenure rank position.Job Description
Responsibilities
Supervise, advise, and coach apprentices: Build cohort cohesion within the Elementary/Middle Years cohort, beginning with summer seminar; Provide direct coaching for apprentice teachers.
Support Instructional Coaches: Facilitate connections between the coursework and opportunities to practice in field placements; Communicate with faculty to support their understanding of how coursework and the context of field placements are interacting to impact opportunities for practice; Build a community of practice among the EL/ML coaching team; Support Instructional Coaches to build an understanding of UTAP organization and operations; Support Instructional Coaches in their coaching responsibilities.
UTAP Program and Field Development: Support the implementation of the UTAP Instructional Coaching curriculum/model through the following: Participate as a member of the UTAP leadership team; Work with the Associate Director for Elementary and Middle Levels to drive continuous improvement of the Instructional Coaching model; In consultation with the Associate Director for Elementary and Middle Levels, strategically identify mechanisms to deepen understanding of UTAP coursework placement sites, and cultivate the links between them (e.g. sit in on classes, develop studio days, teach ‘mini-courses’ in placement schools).
Teaching: Teach 1.0 CU within the program.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL:
A Master’s degree and 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience advising students
PREFERRED:
A Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent doctoral degree
Experience teaching coursework
