Job Description:
Advising: Serves as primary advisor for prospective, current, and returned study abroad participants on topics ranging from, academic program selection, curriculum issues, application process, problems abroad, transcript processing; trains and supervises study abroad student workers; selects and advises study abroad student workers and peer advisors (Ambassadors); manages advertising and coordination of study abroad scholarships and serves as a Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship campus adviser
Programming: Leads development and presentation of study abroad events; pre-departure and re-entry events; coordinates the study abroad fair, Study Abroad 101 info sessions, institutional partner visits and other events; presentations at Admissions events and presentations to faculty
Operations: Corresponds with students, staff, faculty, partners and families via e-mail, mail and/or phone; verifies student registration, advises course selections; solicits and tracks student evaluations; in cooperation with the director, coordinates complete program application process for eligible study abroad students; assists the director with evaluations from overseas institutions; submits invoices for tuition and other payments to partner institutions; compiles annual, detailed statistics on study abroad participation and programs for Open Doors, NAFSA and SAAG; manages office in absence of the director
Maintains knowledge of health and safety best practices; serve as member of the Travel and Crisis Team (TACT) and back-up for Director if Director is out
Participate as a team member in the International Center, of which Study Abroad is a part
Other duties as required by the International Center
Requirements:
Master’s degree preferred, with 2-3 years of experience in study abroad, international students office, or related field preferred
Experience living, studying, and/or working abroad preferred
Ability to analyze and address the educational, personal, and professional needs of students
Familiarity with academic advising, career counseling, and/or student development
Demonstrated attention to detail
Ability to manage confidential information and sensitive situations
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
Ability to organize, analyze, prioritize, and problem-solve within a fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions
Demonstrated experience with database-related software and student information systems
Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently yet have the ability to work collaboratively with other staff as well as members of the Clark community
Available to work some nights and weekends; some domestic and international travel may be required
Knowledge of a foreign language preferred
Knowledge of issues related to community engagement, sustainable travel and social justice
Experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated commitment to inclusion
