Job Summary:
The Special Assistant to the Dean supports the strategic priorities of the Miami University Libraries by communicating its initiatives, events, and stories. The successful candidate will be able to create, adapt, and manage content on a variety of platforms. The role also provides project management, event coordination, executive communications support, and other duties to support the Office of the Dean. This is a visiting position with a one-year appointment. May seek additional extension of twelve months, based on performance and funding, after the initial appointment concludes. This position reports to the Dean of Libraries with daily activities coordinated with the Senior Associate Dean or Associate Dean.
Duties/Physical Demands:
The Special Assistant to the Dean creates engaging and substantive written and/or visual content to tell the Miami Libraries’ stories, support strategic priorities, and promote events and initiatives; drafts, adapts, schedules, and publishes content on digital platforms, such as the Libraries’ Localist account (Miami University’s events calendar), digital display screens, and the Libraries’ website and social media accounts; contributes to strategic initiatives of the Dean’s Office by providing project and event coordination, executive communications support; works closely with Libraries staff to promote events targeting student and campus audiences; supervises student workers, assigning and managing projects and tasks; and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or related field; familiarity with social media platforms and digital media; strong written communication skills, including an understanding of style and grammar and the ability to tailor writing to different audiences and media; ability to independently set priorities, manage time, and manage the involvement of other staff; ability to effectively collaborate.
