The Department of Nanoscience & Biomedical Engineering is seeking a dedicated and experienced instructor for our BME 303 Intro to
Biomechanics course, with a focus on preparing students for their capstone Biomedical Engineering senior design course. The ideal candidate
would also have interest in teaching BME 463L Biomedical Engineering Lab, in spring semesters. The anticipated start date for this position
is August 2023. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position. The
position may continue semester-by-semester, dependent upon performance, department need, funding and student enrollment.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Deliver engaging and effective lectures on topics including, but not limited
to, basic solid mechanics, musculoskeletal anatomy, viscoelasticity, and musculoskeletal biomechanics.
· Conduct laboratory
sessions and provide hands-on instruction in key areas such as SolidWorks and Finite Element Modeling.
· Develop, administer,
and grade examinations and assignments to assess student progress.
· Utilize the D2L platform extensively to manage course
materials, assignments, grades, and communication with students.
· Provide guidance and support to students in preparation for
their senior design course.
· Actively contribute to the development and improvement of the course.
Minimum
Qualifications:
· A Master’s degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.
· A strong understanding of basic solid mechanics and musculoskeletal anatomy.
· Prior teaching experience at the
college or university level. Teaching Assistant (TA) experience will be considered.
· Excellent oral and written communication
skills.
· Proficiency in MS Office tools and online learning platforms, particularly Desire 2 Learn (D2L).
Preferred Qualifications:
· A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field.
·
A strong understanding of viscoelasticity, musculoskeletal biomechanics, statics and dynamics, and fundamental biomaterials concepts.
· Experience in design thinking and processes, particularly in the context of medical device design.
· Knowledge of
entrepreneurial education techniques.
· Hands-on experience with SolidWorks and Finite Element Modeling.
· At
least two years of teaching experience in a relevant field at the college or university level.
Additional Desirable
Qualifications:
· Experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student projects.
· Industry
experience in biomedical engineering or related fields.
· Proven record of research or publications in relevant areas.
· Understanding of project management principles and related software tools.
