Director of Wellness Operations and Recreation
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Dean of Campus Wellness and Strategic Initiatives, the Director of Wellness Operations and Recreation, is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and administration of the recreational and health education and wellness curriculum programs and services for students and the Spelman community; manages all recreational facilities, oversees a complete offering of fitness, health, and wellness, and intramural programs and sports clubs for students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has supervisory responsibilities for the following positions: Coordinator for Fitness, Front Desk Operations Coordinator, Head Personal Trainer, Education Specialist for Wellness Instruction, and all Instructors and the Receptionist position.
DIMENSIONSThis position has accountability for the Operating Budget of $1,287,039 and Payroll Budget of $395,677.
Required Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:Master’s degree required in a related field with a minimum of three years of professional experience as a certified instructor in the fitness and/or wellness environment. Knowledge of current fitness and wellness trends is preferred.
This position requires a strong customer service focus and excellent written, verbal, and time management skills. A professional demeanor with the ability to interface with internal and external customers with diplomacy and tact is essential. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail. Work requires fact-finding and compilation skills plus the ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously, at times with little supervision
Excellent oral communication skills are required when presenting information and responding to questions from students, parents, employees, and the general public in one-on-one or group situations. Incumbent must be able to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and e-mails. Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as professional journals.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to perform intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). In addition to producing correspondence, duties may involve assignments that require creating spreadsheets with formulas, PowerPoint presentations, executive statistics, and reports, plus use of Lotus Notes, and Internet navigation.

Must hold and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit and stand, walk, use hands to handle office and medical supplies, operate a computer and other office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to: reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to: stoop or kneel, climb, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
