The Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives assists Louisiana
Tech University students in providing culturally sensitive crisis management, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, couples therapy,
assessment, initial consultation, ethics, and appropriate referrals, addressing psychopathology, which interferes with personal, social, and
academic functioning. The work of this practitioner will serve the mission of Louisiana Tech University in recruiting and retaining
exemplary students.
This position is important to retaining students at Louisiana Tech University. This position provides the
following:
Sixty percent (60%) of the clinical workload of this professional counselor will be providing counseling services to all
students in the areas of personal, educational, and psycho-social development within the function of Counseling Services.
Forty
percent (40%) provide leadership as the supervisor of Counselor/Coordinators including collaboration with campus and community partners,
providing consultation and outreach activities to the university community, particularly connecting with underrepresented student
populations, and collaborating with other departments and colleges within the University community that focus on building a diverse and
inclusive campus.
Clinical
Provide culturally sensitive crisis management, individual psychotherapy, group
therapy, couples therapy, assessment, initial consultation, ethics, and appropriate referrals, addressing psychopathology, which interferes
with personal, social, and academic functioning. Determine and implement group sessions, presentations, and workshops for meeting
students’ emotional and psychosocial needs. Create and implement strategic outreach presentations to varied groups, organizations, and
departments within the University. Assist in teaching the KINE 433C: Dynamics of Peer Leadership course. Maintain professional license(s)
and professional certifications through continuing education. To respond to mental health crisis on campus in all situations where
Counseling Services knowledge and skills are essential. Consult with concerned students, faculty, staff, and possibly parents regarding
students’ mental health issues. Provide clinical supervision for interns and staff members requiring supervision for licensure. Act as
a Confidential Advisor to students concerning Title IX concerns.
Wellness and Education
Provide leadership as
the supervisor of Counselor/Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Education including collaboration with campus and community partners.
Assist the coordinator of the Peer Leadership Council (PLC) with training student peer leaders. Provide consultation and outreach activities
to university community, particularly connecting with underrepresented student populations. Collaborate with other departments and colleges
within the University community that focus on building a diverse and inclusive campus. Explore grants and research related opportunities to
Health and Wellness. Design and conduct the assessment of effectiveness of services and programming for Counseling Services for Health and
Wellness comparative to other universities. Actively support and assist in planning and implementation of activities and programs that are
functions of Counseling Services as guided by the Director under Health and Wellness. Serve on committees and as a student organization
advisor.
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Counseling or Psychology; hold a State of Louisiana Professional Counselor or
Psychologist license. Applicants should have administrative experience and extensive experience (e.g., 5+ years) providing services. The
clinician should be an effective therapist with generalist clinical skills and demonstrated experience assessing and intervening with a
range of clinical issues and degrees of pathology. Demonstrate a clear evidence of interest and experience working with a wide range of
diverse student identities and needs; for example, international, historically underrepresented or underserved students, LGBTQIA+ identified
students, and students with disabilities. Outstanding interpersonal skills demonstrated in speaking, listening, and writing. Experience and
skills with use of technology to enhance services. Experience and skills in group work and couple therapy. Experience and skills in working
with substance abuse. Skill in marketing and public relations. Comfortable with organizing, scheduling, and coordination of clinical duties.
Computer skills, specifically in website, social media, and creative software. Availability for after-hours crisis rotation and
presentations.
Proposed Annual Salary Range $48,000-$52,000.
