The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the running of the Lyceum Program. A second purpose of the position is to advance the careers of junior scholars or underplaced senior scholars
JOB DUTIES:
30% – Essential – Administrative: Responsibilities include: 1) evaluating applications for Lyceum Scholars Program; 2) helping organize and participate in Lyceum academic and social events; 3) recruiting Lyceum scholarship offerees; 4) recruiting Clemson students for Lyceum Fellows Program.
30% – Essential – Teaching: Per academic department credential, teach 3-4 Lyceum Program classes per academic year under the guidance of the CISC Executive Director at maximum 6 credit hours per semester for relevant academic departmental home of Lyceum Program classes. Hold regularly scheduled office hours.
30% – Essential – Mentoring: Serve as a Socratic Tutor to 5-6 Lyceum Scholars per semester. Socratic Tutors meet with individual tutees every other week for 60 minutes.
10% – Essential – Editing: Read, edit, comment on written work of CISC staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion or imminent completion (ABD) of Ph.D. degree in political science or closely affiliated field (philosophy, history).
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Doctoral / Professional Degree – Political theory (ancient, modern, or American emphasis); constitutional and legal theory; political economy
Work Exp – Two or more semesters of lead teacher/professor in an undergraduate course.
