OVERVIEW
The Manufacturing Process and Packaging Engineer will provide technical leadership as an equipment, system, and product specialist for the plant in Belvidere. This role is responsible to identify, lead, develop, and execute solutions for performance improvements and loss elimination through strong business partnership, strategic productivity, capacity solutions and continuous improvement efforts. This role is a technical resource and liaison to drive successful commercialization of business initiatives on manufacturing systems.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manufacturing Process and Packaging Engineer is expected to influence and develop technical capabilities in themselves and surrounding team through hands on engagement
- Provide technical and business expertise on manufacturing systems/technologies/products and materials
- Demonstrate expertise in machine, materials, methods, environment, and personnel to provide robust operating systems
- Drive loss elimination while improving system and equipment reliability through demonstrated use of continuous improvement processes, problem solving, statistical analysis and support of productivity initiatives
- Provide technical support in capital projects and new product and packaging material testing and start-ups
- Leverage data and information systems to identify and drive decision making (performance metrics, financial information, data historian, maintenance management system)
- Develop strategic technical improvement plans for systems
- Maintain material balances and unit operation capability information to ensure optimal production rates, parameters, and formulas
- Serve as a technical liaison for the site including production and maintenance employees, plant technical and leadership team, other manufacturing sites, corporate engineering and R&D organizations and external partners
- Develop and deliver technical training for various levels of the organization and serve as a resource in cross-functional platform/technology/product teams
- Communicating and engaging effectively at all levels in the organization
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
- Minimum 2 years related work experience in process and/or packaging engineering, process/system development, product development, quality engineering, or manufacturing
- Demonstrated skills in executing several large concurrent assignments with emphasis on project management, productivity, and packing development
- Demonstrated technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, trouble-shooting, communications, team management, and human relations skills
- Strong ability to involve operators and mechanics in the project process
- Experience working with plant technicians, leadership staff, outside vendors and managing contractors and engineering firms
- Must have a good understanding of packaging and processing systems and a working knowledge of plant manufacturing, engineering, quality, and research functions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough understanding of Food Manufacturing Regulatory Requirements (GMP’s, Food Safety, etc.). Experience working with EPA and OHSA regulations
- Experience with continuous improvement, LEAN, Six Sigma, TPM, or related processes
