Responsibilities*
The genetic counselor will be part of the Adult Medical Genetics team. Genetic counselors are involved in education and supervision for trainees, including genetic counseling students, medical students, residents and fellows and will have ample opportunities for academic growth, including research and teaching.
Coordinates specialized genetic counseling services for identified patient populations. Works with the adult medical genetics team to develop new clinics in collaboration with strategic partners
Designs, develops and implements patient/family genetic counseling programs
Interviews patients, relatives and others to obtain data on personal medical and family history. Analyzes and interprets information about he genetic disorder and inheritance patterns to aid and diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Counsels patients and families by explaining aspects of the disease, current state of knowledge and potential diagnostic techniques

Required Qualifications*
Qualified candidates at the Associate level will require a Master’s degree from a genetic counseling program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling (ACGC). Must be certified by the ACGC and have 2-3 years of work experience.
This position may be filled at a lower level depending on the experience of the selected candidate. Qualified candidates at the entry level will require Masters degree from program accredited by the ACGC. Must be certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling within 18 months of hire.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates with strong critical-thinking, organizational and communication skills who can work well independently and collaboratively.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
