Catawba College (“Catawba”) welcomes applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology
beginning August, 2022.
Catawba seeks a generalist with a focus in developmental psychology, with any specialty within human
development considered. The ideal candidate will regularly offer general education courses (specifically general psychology and human
development) and other courses (e.g., developmental theory, psychology of exceptionalities) for majors and minors in psychology and allied
fields, including Sport and Health Sciences, Nursing, Administration of Justice, Teacher Education, and Sociology. A regular rotation in
Catawba’s multidisciplinary first-year seminar (along with first-year advising) is also expected, and Catawba prefers candidates who
incorporate service activities in courses and who are interested in developing other topics courses of interest to students but not strictly
within development (e.g., cross-cultural psychology). Catawba provides opportunities for online teaching during summer and winter terms.
Catawba faculty maintains a four (4) course per semester load. Catawba expects faculty members to be innovative and available, as
excellence in the classroom is the primary focus of faculty evaluation. At the same time, Catawba seeks persons who will engage in
professional activities (including, but not necessarily limited to, research) including our students as co-participants, and who provide
service to the institution via faculty governance and the guidance of student groups. The selected candidate will engage students in unique
ways, have a plan for professional development, and be involved in the College community.

ABOUT CATAWBA:
Founded in
1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba was started by German pioneers who had traveled from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the valleys
of the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba Rivers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution and the first woman graduate completed her
studies in 1893. In 1925, Catawba moved and re-opened to its current location in Salisbury, NC, which is about 45 minutes from Greensboro,
Winston-Salem, and Charlotte, two hours from the mountains, and four hours from the beaches.
Today, Catawba College has 41
buildings on 276 wooded acres on a residential campus. Catawba is known for its 189 acre on-campus ecological preserve. Ranked as one of the
best colleges in the south, Catawba offers 70 academic majors to approximately 1,300 students representing 34 U.S. states and 19 foreign
countries. Students are instructed by nearly 90 full-time faculty, more than 83% of whom hold the highest degree in their field.
