Instrumentation Technician II coordinates and executes maintenance and electrical functions safely in the facility to ensure that plant equipment and services perform at maximum levels while minimizing unscheduled interruption of the plant operation. Additionally, this individual is also responsible for training, coaching, teaching and counseling others on electrical maintenance procedures and best practices. Skills in planning, organizing, knowledge of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and process control systems is required. This position reports to the plant Maintenance Supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety and Environmental
Lives the Owens Corning Safety Stand and meets all safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
Follows the plant safety process and ensures that good safety habits are instilled in the maintenance team.
Maintains an awareness of all safety issues within area of responsibility, and responds with appropriate urgency to correct safety issues identified.
Designs program safety into the electrical systems.
Partners with key stakeholders on capital projects to understand and educate others on the safety of equipment
Complies with all plant rules, safety regulations and job hazard analysis (JHA) requirements.
Handles, stores, and uses hazardous chemicals in accordance with safe procedures as specified by the label(s) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Knows and follows all Emergency Action Plans and Procedures related to the work
area.
Participates actively in all safety programs established in the plant.
Reports all incidents, injuries, illnesses, fires, and spills.
Ensures that uncontrolled hazards are communicated to all employees in the area.
Properly utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the hazards of
the task(s) being performed.
Leads efforts in the area to reduce sources of waste
Properly disposes of any wastes generated
Makes proper notification on environmental upset , releases, and/or hazardous material spills according to procedures
Housekeeping
Keeps work area clean and free of hazards.
Cleans up work area after completion of job task and returns equipment and excess
materials, including free-bin materials, to proper storage area.
Applies protective coatings to new and modified equipment.
Leadership and Administration
Promotes teamwork
Plan and organize jobs for the maintenance crews
P.M. plan implementation and follow up to ensure success.
Ensures maximum efficiency during machine down times.
Responsible for equipment operating efficiency in assigned areas.
Develops and implements daily and long range plans
Completes records, reports, and charts as required
With proper training and time, performs the role of data inputting, interacting with computerized plant systems ensuring that data input is accurate and up to date for assigned equipment
Utilizes the computerized maintenance systems to procure parts and input/receive relevant information on equipment , budgets, work methods, tasks lists etc.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Demonstrates flexibility to perform various job roles within the maintenance department as assigned.
Ensures operation of machinery and electrical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on drives, backup power systems, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other electrical related systems; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications
Assists in maintaining electrical control software in support of programming for the facility
Assists in programming HMIs, PLCs, Servos, and other electrical systems
Makes timely and appropriate decisions when an emergency or breakdown occurs so that production interruption is minimized
For equipment or processes where maintenance costs are high, where reliability is low, or where chronic problems exist, performs additional analysis to identify appropriate maintenance practices (e.g., Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability-centered maintenance analysis).
Diagnoses electrical problems and determines how to correct them, checking schematics, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary
Uses PLC, computer interfaces for troubleshooting as needed
Uses the manufacturing communications network effectively
Proactively makes suggestions/proposals to strive for continuous improvement of plant performance.
Responds to emergency maintenance service requests accordingly
Assists and is capable of performing some duties of the Mechanical task
Is process expert for the manufacturing process
Assists with/leads troubleshooting efforts related to maintenance process, and equipment issues (including computers)
Repairs, maintains and installs plant machines and equipment
Assembles, disassembles or install equipment working from engineering drawings, field sketches, and other related documents and verbal field instructions needed to perform assigned duties
Adjusts, repairs and replaces any faulty parts in plant machinery and equipment
Performs work using precision machines and measuring instruments to produce parts within specified tolerances
Operates tools of the trade and related equipment in performing the work of the craft
Operates forklift, man-lift and misc. plant vehicles. Performs operator inspections, checks fluid levels and various component systems for malfunctions, and replenishes fuel supply
Performs the role of mechanical troubleshooter in reacting to equipment failures as well as recognizing problems/failures before they occur and actively works with equipment operators to minimize the impact of failures. This involves keeping up to date on training, how equipment is to perform, and utilizing up to date reliability methods to ensure continued performance
Performs the role of electrical analyst in reviewing equipment failure history and predictive maintenance information to optimize equipment performance.

Understands several families of Allen-Bradley PLC’s, SLC’s, servo controllers, robots, HMI devices and Visual Basic for production stations and QC gauge support.
Maintain and Repair AC drives including the new PowerFlex Motion products
Develop and maintained equipment based on PM guidelines.
Work together with Divisional Engineers on the installation and debugging of capital projects
Maintain and develop HMI Systems like panel-views
Manage plant’s electric equipment obsolescence strategy
Maintain compatible and updated PLC and drive revision and firmware
Develop an electrical monitoring system to predict failure
Resolve problems related to automation
Tests equipment with the operator during and after implementation of solutions/upgrades
Educating Self and Others
Assists in instructing maintenance team members on proper electrical installation and repair techniques as appropriate
Coordinates contract electrical installations or repairs in the facility
Inspects electrical work in progress to ensure correct labor utilization and evaluate electrical training requirements
Provides direction for downtime and shop work for electrical activities with respect to work requests, downtime lists and assigned projects
Trains, coaches, and counsels others on electrical maintenance procedures, required trainings and best practices
Recommends to the Maintenance Leader training and development of others in support of plant electrical power and control equipment
Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing professional and intercompany networks
Sets high performance standards for self, team and others; assumes accountability for delivering all performance expectations; always knows and adjusts to what’s expected; and monitors status of performance delivery against expectations
Maintenance Project Management
Accountable for keeping the Maintenance Leader and Supervisor appraised of electrical equipment conditions so that situations of major significance can be planned for to avoid major production downtime
Prepares electrical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Coordinates and executes maintenance electrical functions in the facility so the plant equipment and services perform at maximum levels and minimize unscheduled interruption of the plant operation
Provides technical information to support planned electrical preventive maintenance to minimize production downtime
Tracks electrical maintenance costs and failures
Specifies electrical parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtains them from storerooms
Defines electrical spare parts needs, such that inventories are maintained at appropriate levels
Plans and lays out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams
For planned new equipment purchases and installations where no maintenance history exists, applies maintenance and repair “best practices” to assure maximum reliability
Designs and installs electrical and process control systems
Proactively assesses and identifies obsolete parts on critical equipment and identifies optimal solutions to correct issues.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two year Associates degree in technical related field preferred; Associates degree in electrical technology is a plus
5 years or more of relevant industrial electrical maintenance experience
Must be 18 years or older
Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
Must be drug and alcohol free

Knowledge:
Programmable Logic Controllers: PLC components, I/O Systems, instructions, PLC programming, communication protocols, drivers, power supplies, expansion/retrofits, and system development (Allen Bradley Suite preferred)
Electrical Systems: servos, variable frequency drives, measuring systems, DC circuits, batteries, transformers, AC circuits, DC equipment/controls, three-phase systems, wiring, DC shunt motors, control relays, across-the-line starters, limit switches, electronic switching and electrical energy and power relationships
Process Control Systems: speed and rotation sensors, human machine interfaces, control loop operations, data transmission, PID controller/loop tuning, final control elements, process modeling, instrumentation, measurement level detectors, and transducers
Electrical Maintenance: voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters, digital meters; schematics and symbols; short circuits, reversible motors, current probes, and relays
Safety: First aid for shock victims, National Electrical Code, static electricity, grounding, double-insulated tools, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) – 70e, and hazardous electrical locations
Electronics: Analog and digital devices
Mechanical Systems: Pneumatic control systems, air-piloted valves, and hydraulics
